World Skills Legacy Scholarship
The Legacy of WorldSkills Calgary 2009 is the creation of Alberta government scholarships that help students and apprentices participating in provincial, national and international skills competitions further their post-secondary education and skills training.
These scholarships are managed as part of the Alberta Heritage Scholarship Fund.
There are three scholarships awarded:
- two valued at $500 and
- one valued at $9,000 over a two-year period.
How to apply
Applications are not required. Alberta Advanced Education contacts eligible recipients.
To be eligible, you must be an Alberta high school or post-secondary student and/or apprentice. If you:
- accept a position on Team Alberta at the Provincial Skills Canada Competition, you will be eligible for a scholarship valued at $500,
- earn a gold medal at the Skills Canada National Competition, you will be eligible for a scholarship valued at $500, or
- represent Canada at the WorldSkills International Competition, you will be eligible for a scholarship valued at $9,000 over a two-year period to support skills training and preparation for the competition.
There is no deadline, as scholarships are awarded based on your success at the Annual Skills Canada competition and your selection for Team Alberta or Team Canada.
Receiving your scholarship cheque
You are notified by Skills Canada Alberta if you are successful and will receive the scholarship when you attend or continue post-secondary education. You can use the scholarship for any post-secondary field of study. You must use the scholarship within five years of being awarded.
