Apprentices have more options than ever before!
Two Great Canadian Apprenticeship Initiatives: Getting you right where you want to be!
Provincial-Territorial Apprentice Mobility Protocol
The Provincial-Territorial Apprentice Mobility Protocol, an exciting national agreement on apprenticeship training, increases your choices, as an Alberta-registered apprentice, of training in other Canadian provinces and territories.
The Protocol applies to apprentices who wish to:
- move permanently - where they will receive recognition for their training - classroom and work - and exams successfully completed in the same or equivalent trade without the need to repeat training. (This recognition also applies to pre-apprentices.) or
- move temporarily - to work, where they may also be eligible to take technical training and write exams.
For detailed information see Provincial-Territorial Mobility.
Trade Harmonization: Does it affect your apprenticeship program?
In 2013, at the request of industry, the Harmonization Initiative was launched to align Canadian apprenticeship systems by increasing the consistency in the training requirements in the Red Seal trades. Harmonization is geared to improving the mobility of apprentices, supporting an increase in completion rates and enabling employers to access a greater pool of apprentices.
As a part of this work, the Canadian Council of the Directors of Apprenticeship (CCDA) has identified four main harmonization priorities, in consultation with industry and training stakeholders. More detailed information is available on the Red Seal website.
