Until further notice, Alberta is not accepting new applications for designated occupation programs. These programs are being reviewed as part of the transition from the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act to the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act.  Please check back at a later date for updates.

Occupational Certificates

An Alberta Occupational Certificate is evidence that you have the skills, competencies and standards of performance to work in Alberta.

An Occupational Certificate confirms your experience and training meets Alberta industry standards for your occupation. It is not required to work in a designated occupation. There are currently twelve Alberta designated occupations.

An Occupational Certificate provides:

  • recognition of achieved standards of competency in a designated occupation,
  • greater mobility in the occupation and industry, and
  • more opportunities for career development.
