Providing/updating your consent

There are more than 900 scholarships available to apprentices in classroom instruction...and you don’t even have to apply to be eligible! All you need to do is consent and provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) – it’s that easy!

Go to your MyTradesecrets account and click on the Applications tab to provide or update your consent and SIN. If you have more than one active application, click on Details in the right-hand column to update your information.

How to apply

Apprentices do not apply for these scholarships.

Recipients of an Apprenticeship and Industry Training Scholarship are notified by November 1. Apprentices are reminded to check their address in their MyTradesecrets is current.

To be considered for an Apprenticeship and Industry Training Scholarship, recipients must be both:

  • a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident, and
  • an Alberta resident as defined by the address on file in MyTradesecrets.

Eligibility

To be eligible for an Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Scholarship in trades with only one period of classroom instruction, you must  be registered as an Alberta apprentice, and

  • have passed your apprenticeship and industry training exam between August 1 and July 31.

Apprentices who are registered in trades with only 2 periods of classroom instruction AND have completed both periods between July 1 - June 30 are now eligible to apply for an AIT Scholarship. This removes the requirement for apprentices in these trades to have one period of classroom instruction remaining.

Trades with two periods of classroom instruction include:

  • Auto Body Refinisher
  • Commercial Appliance Service Technician
  • Concrete Finisher
  • Gasfitter - Class B
  • Hairstylist
  • Ironworker - Metal Building Systems Erector
  • Ironworker - Reinforcing
  • Mobile Crane Operator
  • Water Well Driller

To be eligible for an Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Scholarship in trades with more than one period of classroom instruction, you must:

  • be registered as an Alberta apprentice in a trade,
  • have passed or received credit for your first or subsequent period apprenticeship and industry training exam between August 1 and July 31, and
  • have at least one more period of classroom instruction remaining in your program.
