Canadian Forces Credentials

Canadian Forces members who hold a Certificate of Military Achievement issued by the Department of National Defense – Canada (DND) and are Regular Forces members can transition into a civilian career and work in the full scope of an equivalent trade.

Individuals who hold an Alberta-recognized military trade qualification in one of Alberta’s designated trades do not require further certification to work in Alberta. There is no requirement to register with Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) or undergo further assessment(s).

Programs for Individuals with Recognized Credentials

Individuals with a recognized credential may also apply for the:

DND credentials submitted for either of the above programs will be verified by AIT staff through contact with Canadian Forces personnel following normal administrative processes. AIT staff will attach proof of that verification to the individual’s application.

Military occupation titles and qualifications change frequently. Any changes to titles or qualifications will be directed to the  AIT manager responsible for the trade. Any historical differences to titles or qualifications will be clarified via the AIT assessment process. Applicants are responsible for indicating the correct trade on their application and for providing the correct military qualifications for AIT’s review. AIT accepts applications that include a Service Number and will verify the trade qualification level with the Canadian Forces based on the applicable Alberta trade.
