History:
For 60 years, Park Derochie has been providing innovative, cost-saving solutions to meet clients' unique needs.

In 1956 Merle Derochie and Jim Park started up a commercial painting firm in Calgary; shortly thereafter Merle recognized the opportunities in Industrial Field Coatings which soon became Park Derochie's primary focus. In 1973, Park Derochie added Industrial Fireproofing to their services and became a name the industry looked to for their coatings and fireproofing requirements.

Driven by fulfilling client needs Park Derochie has since expanded its' services to include various types of blast cleaning, metalizing, shop coatings, stick-built shop fireproofing, mechanical insulation, scaffolding & containment.

With the addition of shop/office facilities nationally including branches located in Surrey, British Columbia; Edmonton and Fort McMurray, Alberta; Saskatoon and Regina, Saskatchewan; and its latest expansion into Winnipeg, Manitoba, Park Derochie has grown to be the largest shop / field coatings and fireproofing company in Canada and has been recognized by the Journal of Protective Coatings and Linings (JPCL) as one of the Top 10 Contractors; ranked No. 4 in North America and No. 1 in Canada.

Further expansions include PD Management & Services Inc. and PD Properties & Rentals Inc., which has the largest inventory of field equipment in the industry (approximately 2 to 3 times the amount of its nearest competitor).

Park Derochie was built on principles of strong work ethic, commitment to customer satisfaction, developing a skilled and dedicated workforce, and a belief that 'Loyalty begets Loyalty'. Due to these principles, this thriving company has developed a strong reputation for excellence in the areas of corporate social responsibility, safety, quality, and production.

This scholarship was established by the Park Derochie Community Action Committee in memory of George Hiebert who passed away, in 2009 at the age of 72, due to cancer. His tenacity, outstanding work ethic and loyalty to Park Derochie were commendable and highly regarded by all who knew him.

This scholarship is intended to assist and encourage Alberta tradesmen/women to pursue apprenticeships in the fields related to the industries which Park Derochie is involved and to inspire them to emulate the honorable qualities demonstrated by George Hiebert.
