History:
Pat Hill started working in the sheet metal trade in 1928 in Calgary. In 1941, Pat moved to Lethbridge with his partner Malcolm Charlton and founded Charlton & Hill. The company started out in sheet metal and roofing and had three employees on the payroll. The business was run out of a 288 sq. ft. shop.

Pat was always a strong supporter of apprentices and training on the job. He was one of the original members of the Sheet Metal Local Advisory Committee, and over the years served at various times on LACs and PACs, and as an Examiner for the Sheet Metal Trade.

Charlton & Hill became involved with the training offered by the Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board in 1947. The first Charlton & Hill journeyman to receive his certificate was in 1949.

Pat was a founding member of the Alberta Roofing Contractors Association and was active at the Board level for many years, serving as its President from 1972 - 1973. Pat retired in 1993, and his son Jim took over as company president.

Today, Charlton and Hill's operations take up nine acres in the Lethbridge industrial park and employs 250 people. Its products and services encompass : commercial and residential heating, ventilation and air conditioning; metal fabrication, roofing, and welding and equipment manufacturing.

Indications for the next decade point to construction and manufacturing projects which will require the company's diverse talents.

Pat Hill passed away in November of 2006 and the success of the company is to a large extent based on the foundation he built up over the years.
