Scope of Profession - Glazier

In this section,

  • “glass” means any type of commercial, residential, decorative or auto glass or related material and includes
    • curtain walls,
    • skylites and sloped glazing,
    • frames and doors,
    • automatic doors,
    • manual doors, and
    • mirrors;
  • “undertakings of the designated trade” means the following:
    • the glazing, setting, attachment, installation and removal of all types of glass on buildings, fixtures and other uses;
    • the installation, fitting, fabrication and attachment of architectural metals or related products for all types of buildings;
    • the cutting, preparation, fabrication or any other handling of glass for buildings, fixtures and other uses.

Undertakings and Activities

When practicing or otherwise carrying out work in the undertakings of the designated trade, the following are activities within the designated trade of glazier: 

  • diagnosing problems and making repairs related to glazing;
  • carrying out damaged lite removal procedures and installing and sealing new components; 
  • storing and handling glass; 
  • preparing and fabricating glass to specifications; 
  • selecting, cutting and fitting glass; 
  • cutting, etching and installing mirrors; 
  • installing glass into window frames; 
  • installing and renovating residential windows, tub enclosures, shower doors and related products; 
  • interpreting drawings and specifications; 
  • preparing, fabricating, installing and maintaining aluminum and glass doors, windows, storefronts, screens and associated hardware; 
  • fabricating and installing curtain walls; 
  • fabricating and installing skylites, sloped glazing, barrel vaults, solariums and other support structures; 
  • preparing and installing building envelope materials and sealants; 
  • installing structural glass, balustrades, handrails and smoke baffles; 
  • installing and maintaining automatic and revolving doors; 
  • operating hand and power operated equipment that is used in the designated trade.

Restricted Activities

The following activities, when performed within undertakings of the designated trade and by the specified classes of individuals, are restricted activities within the designated trade of glazier:

  • diagnosing problems and making repairs related to glazing;
  • carrying out damaged lite removal procedures and installing and sealing new components;
  • storing and handling glass;
  • preparing and fabricating glass to specifications;
  • selecting, cutting and fitting glass;
  • cutting, etching and installing mirrors;
  • installing glass into window frames;
  • installing and renovating residential windows, tub enclosures, shower doors and related products;
  • interpreting drawings and specifications;
  • preparing, fabricating, installing and maintaining aluminum and glass doors, windows, storefronts, screens and associated hardware;
  • fabricating and installing curtain walls;
  • fabricating and installing skylites, sloped glazing, barrel vaults, solariums and other support structures;
  • preparing and installing building envelope materials and sealants;
  • installing structural glass, balustrades, handrails and smoke baffles;
  • installing and maintaining automatic and revolving doors;
  • operating hand and power operated equipment that is used in the designated trade.
