Scope of Profession - Concrete Finisher

In this section,

  • “concrete” means cement products and includes the following:
    • cements;
    • concrete;
    • aggregate;
    • grouts;
    • patching materials;
    • toppings;
    • admixtures;
    • agents;
    • epoxies;
    • protective coatings;
  • “undertakings of the designated trade” means the placing, finishing, restoring and repairing of concrete.

Undertakings and Activities

When practicing or otherwise carrying out work in the undertakings of the designated trade, the following are activities within the designated trade of concrete finisher: 

  • placing of concrete; 
  • handling of concrete;
  • finishing concrete;
  • restoring concrete;
  • repairing and resurfacing concrete;
  • applying curing treatments to concrete; 
  • applying surface treatments to concrete; 
  • consolidating and compacting concrete; 
  • edging, jointing and grooving concrete; 
  • producing various finishes on concrete surfaces; 
  • applying treatments to concrete; 
  • cutting and coring hardened concrete; 
  • scarifying concrete; 
  • applying dry, wet and epoxy grouts; 
  • using detailed drawings, blueprints and other specifications;
  • using hand tools, power tools, levels and explosive actuated tools; 
  • using mixers, wall sawing, floor sawing, grooving, coring and grinding equipment; 
  • using power consolidating, power screeding and power trowelling equipment;
  • using, setting up and assembling rigging and hoisting equipment, ladders and scaffolds; 
  • using any new innovative technological changes in the designated trade in relation to the activities set out in this section.

Restricted Activites

The following activities, when performed within undertakings of the designated trade and by the specified classes of individuals, are restricted activities within the designated trade of concrete finisher:

  • placing of concrete;
  • handling of concrete;
  • finishing concrete;
  • restoring concrete;
  • repairing and resurfacing concrete;
  • applying curing treatments to concrete;
  • applying surface treatments to concrete;
  • consolidating and compacting concrete;
  • edging, jointing and grooving concrete;
  • producing various finishes on concrete surfaces;
  • applying treatments to concrete;
  • cutting and coring hardened concrete;
  • scarifying concrete;
  • applying dry, wet and epoxy grouts;
  • using detailed drawings, blueprints and other specifications;
  • using hand tools, power tools, levels and explosive actuated tools;
