Overhead Door Technician - Level Two

Overhead door technicians install, service, repair and conduct preventative maintenance on residential and commercial overhead sectional doors, coiling doors, coiling and sliding steel fire doors, electric operating devices for these doors, dock levelers, electric gate openers, and access control devices for commercial and industrial sites.

Overhead door technicians - level two:

  • perform duties as per overhead door technician - level one certification as delivered by the Canadian Door Institute (CDI),
  • have overall responsibility for planning and completing overhead door projects,
  • ensure safe worksite practices and procedures,
  • install, repair and maintain overhead doors systems having a height greater than 10 feet and opening to an interior with a ceiling height of greater than 12 feet,
  • prepare assignments and supervise crew members, and
  • provide assistance in the design and installation of overhead door systems.

Work Experience

The requirements for Overhead Door Technician – Level 2 are:

  • A minimum of 18 months AND 1,500 hours of work experience. 
  • successful completion and verification of the Canadian Door Institution Level 1 course.
  • An Employer Assessment of Competency Form
  • A successful theory exam.

Recognized Training

The requirements for Overhead Door Technician – Level 2 are:

  • A minimum of 12 months AND 1,000 hours of work experience.
  • Certification in Overhead Door Technician - Level 1.
  • Successful completion and verification of Canadian Door Institution Level 2 course or equivalent (certificate issued after Jan 1/15).
  • A successful theory exam.
