What is Latch?

Latch is an AI assistant for Alberta’s apprenticeship system, Trained on Tradesecrets website content and other AIT data sources, it helps apprentices, employers, sponsors, staff, and the public find and understand information about apprenticeship and industry training, including programs, applications, exams, classes, apprenticeship pathways, and sponsor & employer information.

Unlike basic chatbots that can only respond to a small list of pre-written questions, Latch uses artificial intelligence to understand your question and explain information in plain language. You can ask follow-up questions, ask for clarification, or ask Latch to explain something in a different way.

What can Latch do?

Latch is available 24/7 and can help answer many common questions immediately. It can also explain information in different ways, summarize longer content, help you understand next steps, and provide general information in many languages.

While Latch can help answer general questions more quickly, it does not replace AIT staff. Some questions require account review, staff judgment, or information that should not be shared in a chat. By handling the common questions, Latch helps staff focus on individual inquiries that require direct support.

Latch is designed to provide helpful and accurate information, but it may sometimes misunderstand a question or provide incomplete information.

For important decisions, deadlines, eligibility questions, applications, exams, certification requirements, or anything that could affect your apprenticeship, trade certification, or employment, you should confirm the information with official Tradesecrets pages, Alberta.ca, or AIT staff.

Chat data use and security

Latch is intended for general information only. Do not enter personal details such as your date of birth, Social Insurance Number, MyTradesecrets account information, application details, financial information, medical information, or other sensitive or confidential information.

Chat content is not used to train Latch , but it is retained for business purposes and may be reviewed to improve service or website content.
