For Employers: Verifying a Trade Certificate

If an employer wishes to seek further verification beyond what the recognized credential tool above provides, they should verify credentials through the issuing jurisdiction.

Recommended Steps:

  1. Contact the issuing jurisdiction to see what their process is for releasing information, including what consent the client must provide for that authority to release any information.
    • If needed, get the certificate holder’s written permission to request verification.
    • Find links to other Canadian issuing jurisdictions here (bottom of page).
  2. Confirm the certificate holder’s legal name (spelled correctly) and date of birth.
  3. Take copies both sides of the certificate.
  4. Email the information to the issuing province or territory and request official verification.

If the issuing province or territory informs you the certificate does not appear to be authentic, contact us.
