Canadian Credentials

Alberta recognizes trade certificates from other provinces or territories with or without Red Seal Endorsement.


Recognized Trade Certificates

If you hold a recognized trade credential from another Canadian province or territory, you may work in Alberta without:

  • registering with Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT),
  • writing any additional exams, or
  • completing any additional training.

Trades Qualifier – Recognized Credential Program

This program allows individuals with a recognized credential to:

  • obtain an Alberta journeyperson certificate, and
  • apply for Red Seal endorsement (if not previously obtained).

This program is optional. You do not need to complete it to work in Alberta with a recognized credential.
