Sponsor Access FAQ

Apprentices and sponsors to submit apprenticeship applications online, anytime, anywhere they have internet access, through MyTradesecrets.

If a person wants to be an apprentice, their sponsor enters into an apprenticeship education agreement. To do this, a contact designated by the sponsor must fill out and consent to the same information online that was previously on the paper application.

What can sponsors do with their access?

Sponsor access allows the sponsor's designated contact to provide the same information they provide today on a paper apprenticeship application, online. Sponsors also have the ability to pay online for the apprenticeship application, if they choose.

How are sponsors notified of an apprenticeship application awaiting their information?

The email received by the sponsor's designated contact provides a link to access the online apprenticeship contract. First time sponsor contacts must create a basic Alberta.ca Account, if one does not already exist. To create your Alberta.ca Account, you must accept the Terms and Conditions, create a user profile and an account. An Alberta.ca Account is now required to access MTS. Creating a Verified Account will lead to a delay in accessing MyTradesecrets. Click to review the Alberta.ca Account Common Questions.

Is MTS sponsor online access secure and protected?

Yes, the sponsor's designated contact must first create a basic Alberta.ca Account (see above), if one does not already exist. The sponsor's contact must login through a password restricted screen before accessing their apprentice’s in-progress application. Once the online application has been completed and submitted, only AIT staff can access the application.

How can a sponsor get secure access?

An individual designated by a sponsor, who has the authority to act on the sponsor's behalf, will receive an email from Apprenticeship and Industry Training with a hyperlink to the prospective apprentice’s application. First time sponsor contacts must create a basic Alberta.ca Account, if one does not already exist. Creating your Alberta.ca Account ensures your information is safe and secure.

What is the step-by-step process for sponsors to complete their portion of an apprentice’s online application?

The following steps have been created to ensure security and privacy for the sponsor and their new apprentices.

  1. The sponsor must give the apprentice the email address of the designated contact who has the authority to act on the sponsor's behalf to: a) recommend credit for any previous work experience the apprentice may have and b) agree to enter into an apprenticeship contract.
  2. When the apprentice has completed their portion of the online application, the sponsor receives a link to access the apprenticeship contract. First time sponsor contacts must create a basic Alberta.ca Account, if one does not already exist. Only a basic Alberta.ca Account is required to access MTS. You do not need to create a Verified Account. To learn about the difference between a Basic and Verified Account, review the Albert.ca Account Common Questions.
  3. The sponsor's designated contact creates a login and password to access the application.  The same login and password are used for future applications from apprentices sponsored by the same organization.
  4. Finally, the sponsor's designated contact completes and submits the online application.
