The Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act governs apprenticeship education and the designation and regulation of the skilled trades in Alberta.
Overview
The act governs apprenticeship education and skilled trades designation in Alberta.
The act:
- provides the Minister with the authority to establish apprenticeship education programs, industry training programs, and designated trades,
- provides AIT (through the Registrar) with the authority to administer apprenticeship education programs and industry training programs, including issuing credentials,
- establishes the Alberta Board of Skilled Trades,
- provides AIT (through the Administrator) with the authority to administer the designated trades, including issuing and tracking journeyperson certificates,
- prescribes offences and penalties under the act,
- provides for transitional matters between the former Apprenticeship and Industry Training Act and the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act.
AIT acts as the Registrar and Administrator under the STAE Act.
