Scholarship Information:Clifford J. Williams Scholarship

History:
The funding for this Scholarship has been provided in recognition of the tremendous contributions that Mr. Williams has made to Apprenticeship, and to the Construction Industry. In particular we wish to acknowledge those contributions that have arisen from his dedication and work with our two funding organizations.

Mr. Williams started as an apprentice, and through hard work and dedication became the Chairman of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board of Directors. Along the way he earned trade certificates in the plumber and gas fitter trades and was employed as a journeyman and a foreman until he founded Williams Plumbing and Heating Co. Ltd. in 1959. He was chief executive officer for 28 years.

In 1988 he joined Construction Labour Relations - an Alberta Association, as a Labour Relations Representative, an organization he had been instrumental in founding in 1970. Prior to joining the association as a labour relations practitioner he held positions of director and Chairman of the Board and Chairman of the Mechanical Trade Division of the Association.

Mr. Williams has been an active, long standing member of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta. He has served as Chairman of the Provincial Association, and of the Northern District of the Mechanical Contractors Association of Alberta.

An active 'friend' of apprenticeship, Mr. Williams has taken every opportunity to promote and support apprenticeship including serving on committees for the United Association of Journeyman and Apprentices of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 488. In addition he has served as Chairman of the Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Training Board.
