Chairperson’s Award of Excellence

The Chairperson’s Award of Excellence recognizes and honours individuals who have demonstrated extraordinary dedication and commitment to their trade and to the apprenticeship and industry training system through outstanding service as a member of the industry advisory system. It also recognizes individuals who have demonstrated outstanding commitment and dedication to the success of apprentices, and in turn, the success of the Apprenticeship and Industry Training System.

**In 2019 the Board chose to combine two awards (“Chairman’s Award of Excellence” and “Special Recognition Award”) under the “Chairperson’s Award of Excellence”.

Nomination information:

Nominations are solicited from the Board Chair, Board members, Managers in Industry Programs and Standards, AIT Officers and industry stakeholders. This is a prestigious honour and recognizes only a few individuals each year.

Award criteria:

*Internal to the Industry Advisory System

A nominee for the Chairperson’s Award of Excellence:

  • has made significant contributions to one or more trades and to the principles of apprenticeship and industry training while serving as a member of the industry advisory system,
  • demonstrates leadership in furthering the goals of the industry advisory system, and
  • is a strong promoter of Alberta’s apprenticeship and industry training system within the province and in other jurisdictions.

*(current Presiding officers and Board members are not eligible for this award)

*External to the Industry Advisory System

A nominee for the Chairperson’s Award of Excellence:

  • has shown outstanding commitment and dedication to the success of apprentices in Alberta,
  • is a strong promoter of Alberta’s trades and occupations,
  • has influenced or contributed to the success of apprentices from outside the Apprenticeship and Industry Training network, and
  • promotes apprenticeship above and beyond their job/role responsibilities.

(Note: Instructors and employer organizations are ineligible for this award.)

Award presentation:

The Chairperson’s Award of Excellence is presented at the annual Alberta Apprenticeship and Industry Awards of Excellence.
