Consent for Awards and Scholarships

MyTradesecrets (MTS) lets you give electronic consent so you can be considered for awards and scholarships, and it provides a way to confirm your eligibility for awards. You must provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) as part of this process.

You are not required to provide consent or your SIN, but you will not be considered for awards if you don’t provide this information. Your consent choice will not affect your apprenticeship status.

On this page:

How to provide consent

There are two ways to provide your Awards and Scholarships consent through MTS.

The first is when you complete a new application for:

  1. an Alberta apprenticeship
  2. the Registered Apprenticeship Program (RAP)
  3. one of the following Prior Learning Assessments (PLAs)
    • Alberta Technician/Technology Program
    • Alberta Technician/Technology Program (Currently Attending)
    • Pre-Employment Program
    • Pre-Employment Program (Currently Attending)
    • Alberta High School CTS Program
    • Alberta High School CTS Program (Currently Attending)

Or, if you are already an apprentice (including RAP), or have applied for one of the above PLA categories, you can provide your consent through the Applications section of your MyTradesecrets account.

Providing consent for a new application

In the Agreements and Consent section of your application, you will be asked to provide your consent for Alberta Advanced Education to use your personal information for the purposes of determining your eligibility for and administration of awards and scholarships.

  1. Read the consent statement and select your choice.
    • If you select “I consent,” you must enter your SIN. You cannot copy and paste into this box; you must type the numbers in.
    • If you select “I do not consent,” you will still be able to continue your application, but you will not be considered for these awards.
  2. Click the Next button.

Your consent will be recorded on the printable version of your application that is available on the Submit for Payment screen, but your SIN will not appear.

If Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) already has your SIN

If you have previously applied for an apprenticeship award or other student aid, your SIN will already be on file. You still have to provide your consent for each application to be considered for an award, but you will see a message that your SIN has already been provided.

Changing your consent

You can change your consent at any time after your application has been processed by following the steps in providing consent for an ongoing program or existing application. A new item will be added to your correspondence for each change.

If you choose to revoke your consent, AIT will keep your SIN on file in case you change your mind.

Changing your SIN

If you realize you have entered your SIN incorrectly, you can change it at any time through the Update My Consent/SIN button in the Applications section of your MyTradesecrets account.
