Scope of Profession - Floorcovering Installer

In this section,

  • “floorcovering” means resilient floorcoverings, carpets and cushion and other types of underlayments and includes the following:
    • linoleum;
    • inlaid sheet vinyls;
    • roto vinyls;
    • tiles;
    • solid polyvinyl chloride;
    • prefinished hardwood flooring;
    • laminate flooring;
    • accessories used in respect of floorcoverings;
  • “undertakings of the designated trade” means the preparation of floors and the lay out, fitting, installation, service, maintenance and repair of floorcoverings and accessories.

Undertakings and Activities

When practicing or otherwise carrying out work in the undertakings of the designated trade, the following are activities within the designated trade of floorcovering installer: 

  • preparing of floors; 
  • laying out, fitting and installing floorcoverings and accessories; 
  • servicing, maintaining and repairing floorcoverings and accessories; 
  • using detailed drawings, blueprints and other specifications; 
  • using hand tools and power tools to perform the activities set out in this section; 
  • using shop equipment, including air tools, floor grinders, sanders, polishers, table saws, miter saws, power stretchers and explosive actuated tools; 
  • conducting moisture tests; 
  • using any new innovative technological changes in the designated trade that relate to materials or methods of construction.

Restricted Activities

The following activities, when performed within undertakings of the designated trade and by the specified classes of individuals, are restricted activities within the designated trade of floorcovering installer:

  • preparing of floors;
  • laying out, fitting and installing floorcoverings and accessories;
  • servicing, maintaining and repairing floorcoverings and accessories;
  • using detailed drawings, blueprints and other specifications;
  • using hand tools and power tools to perform the restricted activities set out in this section;
  • using shop equipment, including air tools, floor grinders, sanders, polishers, table saws, miter saws, power stretchers and explosive actuated tools;
  • conducting moisture tests;
  • using any new innovative technological changes in the designated trade that relate to materials or methods of construction.
