History:
The Thermal Insulation Association of Alberta (TIAA) initiated the development of the first government sponsored Insulator Apprenticeship Program in Canada, operative since May 1972 at NAIT (also SAIT, now closed). For many years, this Association subsidized the salary of the instructor for this program. The TIAA continues to support the program through the Provincial Apprenticeship Committee (PAC), which monitors and assists in updating apprenticeship curriculums and programs.
TIAA has long recognized the excellence of Alberta apprentices and has demonstrated leadership in the development and support of Alberta's skilled workforce. Each year, through the Alberta Construction Association, TIAA provides the top first place apprentices with appropriate plaques and recognition of their accomplishment. Six scholarships have been developed and are administered by our Association to encourage and assist recipients to further develop their trade skills by completing their apprenticeship program in this trade.
We also co-sponsor the TIAA Insulator Scholarship with the Provincial Government. We trust that this scholarship will provide additional incentives for young people to enter the construction trades, and in particular, the Insulation Trade. The objective of the TIAA Insulator Scholarship is to recognize the excellence of Alberta apprentices and to encourage and assist the recipients in their further development in the Insulation Trade. The scholarship is therefore contingent on successful candidates being registered and continuing in the next year of their apprenticeship program.
TIAA has been the driving force promoting the development, training, and recognition of insulation apprentices in this province for many years. We value the support for our Association and our members who have built this organization, who are the voice of this industry and who, by their membership, support the mechanical industry in Alberta.
