Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)
What is MySTN?
MySTN is a consultative network of skilled tradespeople, employers, and industry experts (like you!).
Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) may reach out to members for input on trades training and certification.

Do I have to participate to stay a member?
Your participation is always optional.
You decide when and how often you get involved. Not available? Don’t worry — you’re still in the network and may be invited in the future.
How often will I be contacted?
Only when there’s a consultation relevant to your trade. That might be once a year or a few times over several months.
Do I get paid?
- Surveys: Not paid
- Group and individual consultations: Paid per session or day + reimbursement for travel, meals, parking
- You'll get more information if/when you commit to participating.
- Alberta Government Travel, Meal and Hospitality Expenses Policy
What if I can’t attend a consultation I agreed to?
Please give us 72 hours’ notice by emailing both your AIT staff contact and ae.mystn@gov.ab.ca.
Will I get a T4 for payment I receive?
No. SMEs are paid as contractors (business partners) and are not issued T4s as a result.
Why is it necessary to sign an acknowledgement of confidentiality and use undertaking before participating in consultations?
Any potential trade change(s) discussed in consultations must go through a review process and approval before being implemented. An acknowledgement of confidentiality and use ensures that members do not share any materials, potential changes or discussions publicly before the process is complete.
