Step-by-step Application Instructions

  • If you are a first time user making your first application, follow Steps 1-3 below.
  • If you are a returning user applying for a new program or service, completing an application in progress, or paying for a completed application, go directly to Step 3 below.

Step 1 – Create your MyAlberta Digital ID Basic Account (or log in if you already have one). 

Accept the Terms and Conditions and create a user profile and a basic account.

  • You do not need a verified account. A basic account is sufficient.

Step 2 – Verify your Identity

Provide personal information so AIT can verify your identity. 

Provide your Alberta Student Number (ASN).

  • Your ASN can be found on your Alberta high school transcript.
  • If you do not have an ASN, obtain one from the Learner Registry.

Step 3 – Complete the Application

  • Ensure you select the correct application type for the AIT program or service you are applying for. 
  • Follow the step-by-step application process. The application includes drop-down lists and mandatory information prompts.
  • Complete all required information in the online application.
  • For apprenticeship applications, ensure your sponsor has given you the email address of someone who has the authority to agree to enter into an apprenticeship education agreement.
    • An email request is sent to your sponsor to complete that portion of the application.
  • Make your payment online or indicate you’ll be paying in person at an AIT office.
    • See 'Online Payments' below for information on payment options.

Information Security and Privacy Protection

Information submitted through the online application process is secure and protected. 

  • Applicants are required to login through a password restricted screen before accessing their in-progress applications.
  • Once the online application has been completed and submitted, only AIT staff will have access to the application information.
  • The online payment portion of the application meets the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard. This is a set of strict security rules developed by the credit card industry to protect cardholders against card fraud and identity theft.

Consent for Awards and Scholarships

In the Agreements and Consent section of your application (for an apprenticeship program), you will be asked to provide your consent for Alberta Advanced Education to use your personal information to determine your eligibility for AIT awards and scholarships. You will be asked to provide your Social Insurance Number (SIN) with your consent. 

You are not required  your SIN or to provide consent or, but you will not be considered for awards if you don’t provide this information. Your consent choice will not affect your apprenticeship status.

To provide your consent and your SIN: 

  • Read the consent statement and select your choice.
    • If you select “I consent,” you must enter your SIN. You cannot copy and paste into this box; you must type the numbers in.
    • If you select “I do not consent,” you will still be able to continue your application, but you will not be considered for these awards.
  • Click the Next button.

Your consent will be recorded on the printable version of your application that is available on the Submit for Payment screen, but your SIN will not appear here, for information security reasons.

If Apprenticeship and Industry Training (AIT) already has your SIN

If you have previously applied for an apprenticeship award or other student aid, your SIN will already be on file. You still have to provide your consent for each application to be considered for an award, but you will see a message that your SIN has already been provided.

Online Payments

Applicants for AIT programs and services are offered the option of:

  • paying for their associated fees by credit or debit card through a secure online payment page, or
  • visiting their local AIT office to make a credit/debit card payment

Pay online

You will be redirected from your online application to a secure payment page to immediately process your payment.

  • You can pay online using VISA, Mastercard, AMEX, Visa Debit, or Debit Mastercard via a convenient, safe, secure, password-protected source.
  • Paying by credit card and debit card is accepted at any of the 12 AIT offices in Alberta.

You will receive a confirmation receipt by email.

If payment was not successfully processed, a message will pop up with an option to try again or to select an alternative payment method.

AIT is permitted to accept card payments by credit or debit card through the online payment page or by credit or debit card at any AIT office.

  • AIT cannot process credit card or debit cards payments from information provided over the telephone, by fax, by email or in the mail. Credit card information submitted this way will be securely destroyed.
  • AIT cannot record or store any card-holder information.
  • Money orders and personal cheques are not accepted.
  • Split payments (e.g. pay half of the AIT fee on Visa and the other half by debit card) are no longer accepted.

Security

Yes. AIT is operating to the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard, which provides AIT clients with protection against credit card fraud and identity theft. 

You are required to login through a password restricted screen before accessing your online applications. 

  • When you have completed your online application and elect to process your payment online, you are redirected from your online application to a secure payment page where the payment information is only accessible to Toronto Dominion (TD) Merchant Services. 
  • TD Merchant Services is the GoA selected provider for online payment transactions and meets the Payment Card Industry (PCI) Data Security Standard.
