AIT staff regularly give presentations about the value and opportunity in apprenticeship education.

Minister Industry Roundtable (2023)

In Aprill 2023, the Honourable Kaycee Madu, Minister of Skilled Trades and Professions, held an industry roundtable.

On April 18, 2023, the Honourable Kaycee Madu, Minister of Skilled Trades and Professions, held an industry roundtable discussion with industry stakeholders. The session was an opportunity examine and share perspectives on the transformation that has already occurred under the Skilled Trades and Apprenticeship Education Act and to consider future strategy.

The event included presentations on how our province is modernizing our skilled trades system, workforce opportunities in the skilled trades, and strengthening apprenticeship education, including the role of Period Exams in apprenticeship education. Slides from these presentations can be found in the link below.

Apprenticeship and the IT Sector Request for Interest (2024)

AIT invited IT representatives to learn how apprenticeship learning may assist workforce development in the IT sector.

In 2024, AIT extended an invitation to Alberta’s Information Technology (IT) representatives to attend an online information session regarding a Request for Interest (RFI) that the Government of Alberta is launching.

This information session explained the flexible ways the apprenticeship learning model – a combination of classroom and on-the-job instruction – may assist workforce development in Alberta’s IT sector.

Apprenticeship education offers:

  • The ability for students to gain real-world experience and earn while they learn.
  • Flexible program development, delivery, and assessment options.
  • An education credential that can lead to further educational pathways.
  • The option for an industry recognized certification (journeyperson certification) for experienced workers.

More information on apprenticeship education and trade designation in Alberta can be found on our Industry Pathways page.
