Apprenticeship and the IT Sector Request for Interest (2024)
AIT invited IT representatives to learn how apprenticeship learning may assist workforce development in the IT sector.
In 2024, AIT extended an invitation to Alberta’s Information Technology (IT) representatives to attend an online information session regarding a Request for Interest (RFI) that the Government of Alberta is launching.
This information session explained the flexible ways the apprenticeship learning model – a combination of classroom and on-the-job instruction – may assist workforce development in Alberta’s IT sector.
Apprenticeship education offers:
- The ability for students to gain real-world experience and earn while they learn.
- Flexible program development, delivery, and assessment options.
- An education credential that can lead to further educational pathways.
- The option for an industry recognized certification (journeyperson certification) for experienced workers.
More information on apprenticeship education and trade designation in Alberta can be found on our Industry Pathways page.
See the presentation notes from the online information session.
