Sponsor Eligibility
A sponsor is a legal entity recognized in Alberta that is able to meet the obligations of a sponsor and enter into an apprenticeship education agreement as the sponsor of an apprentice.
If it is determined that a sponsor has failed to meet the obligations of a sponsor:
- this may be treated as non-compliance under the Act, and may be subject to associated compliance orders,
- existing apprenticeship education agreements associated with that sponsor may be cancelled, and
- the Registrar may refuse to approve new apprenticeship education agreements with the sponsor.
Sponsors must not charge fees for the provision of sponsorship to apprentices.
