History:
Formed in 1952, CLAC is one of Canada's fastest-growing unions. Operating through 15 member centres, it is the country's largest national, independent, multisector union representing over 60,000 workers in almost every sector.

We're a union that believes that there's more to work than just work. A workplace is a community, a place where everyone-workers, their union, and the employer-comes together to achieve a common goal. It's a place where jobs and lives are intertwined.

What makes us different?

Based on the values of respect, dignity, and fairness, we are committed to building better workplaces, better communities, and better lives. This commitment underpins how we negotiate on your behalf. We create a positive bargaining climate with employers, seeking win-win outcomes wherever possible. We get you what you need, without risking what you already have.

We believe in cooperation, not confrontation. We work to make your workplace a better place-so that you and your co-workers can grow both as a workplace community and as individuals.

It's why we seek to balance individual and collective interests when we negotiate. It's why we only strike as a last resort. It's why we don't tell our members where to work, or our signatory employers who they can hire. It's why we don't force anyone to join us, or fine them when they leave. It's why we use your dues money to represent and support you, not politicians or political parties.

What we offer

Our professional representatives and highly trained stewards back you up in your workplace. They are there to answer your questions, help you when problems arise at work, and advocate on your behalf.

We negotiate contracts that make sure you are fairly compensated for your work. But good representation, fair wages, and reasonable hours are only one part of the story. We also consider what you need to succeed in your life outside of work. That's why we offer

- Comprehensive healthcare benefits
- Retirement savings plans you can count on
- An extensive range of training and educational opportunities
- Scholarship opportunities for members and their families
- A jobs program to help you find employers, and employers find you
- A national wellness program
- An advantage program that provides you and your family with discounts at major retailers and service providers

CLAC brings workers together to create a strong voice in the workplace and help you achieve a better work-life.
