History:
U.A. Local 496 received its charter from the United Association of Journeymen and Apprentices of the Plumbing and Pipe Fitting Industry of the United States and Canada on December 24, 1904.

U.A. Local 496 membership totals approximately 1,500 plumbers, gas fitters, steam fitters, sprinkler fitters, welders and non-destructive testing personnel.

The Piping Industry Training School is the Local Union's training arm and was established in 1964. The school consists of a welding shop, three classrooms, and a computer lab. It is funded through grants from the U.A. Head Office, and member contributions to the Training Fund. Our facilities are used to upgrade the skills of our journeyperson members, and give supplementary training to our apprentices.
